  • 1 large head iceberg lettuce (may also use spinach)
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt/substitute
  • 1 c. warm water
  • 5 slices crisp bacon
  • 1 c. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 finely chopped medium onion

Directions

    Shred lettuce into large ceramic bowl and toss with onion and an additional 1/2 to 1 cup sugar (to taste).

    Bacon is best cooked in cast-iron skillet, do not drain fat.

    To bacon add sugar, salt, vinegar and water.

    Cook until reaches boiling and then pour over lettuce and stir.

    The hot liquid wilts lettuce.

    Best served with Sunday dinner such as roast, mashed potatoes, green beans, etc.
