Ingredients
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast or 1 cake compressed yeast
- 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. scalded milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- about 4 c. sifted flour
Directions

1Soften yeast in water.

2Add 1/2 teaspoon sugar.

3Add rest of sugar, butter and salt to hot milk.

4Stir until sugar is dissolved.

5Cool, then add egg.

6Stir in softened yeast.

7Stir flour into liquid ingredients.

8Mix by hand.

9Stir until flour and liquid are well mixed.

10Turn dough out onto a lightly floured board and knead it quickly until it is smooth and elastic.

11Form dough into a smooth ball.

12Place ball of dough in a greased bowl and turn it over once or twice to grease the surface.

13Cover and let rise in a warm place until double in size, about 1 hour.
