- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 4 c. plain flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
Directions

1Boil 1 cup water; add 1/2 cup shortening and set aside 30 minutes.

2Sprinkle yeast over 1/4 cup lukewarm water; let stand 30 minutes.

3Mix flour, sugar and salt and make a well in middle. Mix water with shortening and yeast water with egg and pour into well.

4Beat hard until smooth and shiny.

5Let rise 2 hours in unheated oven.

6Knead and shape into rolls and let rise 2 hours. Bake at 400°.

7Can bake until very light brown and freeze for later use.

8Makes about 2 dozen.
