- 3 tablespoons ghee
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 12 teaspoon turmeric
- 2 bay leaves
- 4 cloves
- 4 black peppercorns
- 2 cinnamon sticks (1 inch)
- 2 black cardamom pods
- 2 cups brown rice, pre-soaked
- 3 -4 cups water
- 3 tablespoons green peas
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 pinch saffron
Directions

1Heat ghee in a skillet.

2Saute onion over a medium heat till golden.

3Reserve some of the onion for garnishing later.

4Add turmeric to the skillet.

5Stir and heat briefly.

6Add the rest of the spices in order.

7Mix well.

8Add the rice and stir a few times.

9Pour over water, stir and bring to a boil.

10Reduce heat, mix in peas and salt, cover and cook for 10 to 15 minutes.

11Sprinkle with saffron and reserved sauted onion.

12Serve hot.
