Ingredients

  • whole pickling cucumbers
  • 2 Tbsp. alum
  • 2 Tbsp. canning salt
  • 4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. pickling spice
  • 1 gal. vinegar
  • 1 gal. jar

Directions

    Wash cucumbers and fill a gallon jar.

    Add alum, salt, spice and enough vinegar to cover the cucumbers.
  3. 3
    Set aside for 3 months. Then pour off vinegar and slice about 1/4- inch thick; layer slices back in the jar.

    Add sugar; turn jar back and forth or shake until sugar is dissolved.

    They are ready to eat.
