  • 1 loaf French bread, sliced thin with crust removed
  • 2 green apples, cored and chopped
  • 1/2 c. raisins
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 qt. milk or half and half
  • 2 Tbsp. melted oleo

    Combine eggs, sugar and flour until smooth.

    Add milk and blend well.

    Set custard in refrigerator.

    Butter 11 x 7 x 1 3/4-inch pan and line bottom with the sliced bread.

    Cover with 1/2 chopped apples and raisins and 1/3 of custard.

    Repeat for second layer.

    Top with remaining bread and custard.

    Drizzle melted oleo over top.

    Bake at 375° for 45 to 60 minutes until custard is slightly firm.
