Ingredients

  • 1 lb. pinto beans
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 Tbsp. bacon fat
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 (No. 2) can tomatoes
  • 1/2 c. ketchup
  • 1 pkg. chili seasoning

Directions

    Cover beans with water; stir in soda and soak overnight. Drain and wash beans thoroughly to remove soda; add 1 1/2 cups water, bacon fat and salt.

    Cover and cook beans 1 1/2 to 2 hours until tender.

    Brown ground beef; add onion and cook until onion is transparent.

    Add to beans.

    Blend tomatoes in blender until of smooth consistency and add to beans.

    Add ketchup and chili seasoning.

    Cover.

    Bring to a boil on medium high heat; simmer 45 minutes.

    Serve piping hot.
