- 1 2/3 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. ground cardamon
- 1/4 c. butter, softened
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2/3 c. milk
- 2 c. frozen unsweetened blackberries, thawed and drained
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- whipped cream
Directions

1Sift flour, baking powder, salt and cardamon onto wax paper. Beat butter and 3/4 cup sugar until creamy.

2Beat in egg and vanilla until smooth and light.

3Add milk alternately with flour mixture to the butter and sugar, beating just to mix thoroughly. Spread less than half the batter in a buttered 9 x 11 1/2-inch pan.

4Sprinkle with half the berries.

5Spoon remaining batter evenly over the berries; smooth with a spatula.

6Sprinkle with remaining berries, then top with the 2 tablespoons sugar.

7Bake at 350° for 45 minutes, or until center springs back when lightly pressed with fingertip.

8Cool slightly on wire rack.

9Serve warm with whipped cream.
