Ingredients

  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 3 c. whole bran cereal
  • 3 c. oatmeal
  • 1 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 3 c. raisins
  • 1 qt. buttermilk
  • 4 eggs
  • 5 c. plain flour
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 5 tsp. soda
  • 4 Granny Smith apples, chopped
  • walnuts (if wanted)

Directions

    Flour nuts and raisins.

    Pour water over 2 cups cereal and set aside.

    Cream sugar and shortening.

    Add buttermilk and eggs.

    Fold in flour, salt, soda and cereal and mix until dry ingredients are moistened.

    Add raisins, nuts and chopped apples.

    Bake at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes in mini muffin tins or 20 minutes in regular muffin tins.

    Store in refrigerator and do not stir when ready to use.

    Keep 4 to 6 weeks in refrigerator.

    Makes 1 gallon.
