- 1 c. warm buttermilk
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1/4 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 to 4 Tbsp. soft shortening
- 2 1/2 to 3 c. flour
- 1 pkg. yeast
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Melt shortening in warm buttermilk.

3Add sugar, salt and soda to warm buttermilk mixture. It will foam up.

4Add this to yeast, then add flour.

5Add more flour if needed.

6Knead dough and then cover with bowl.

7Wait 15 minutes.

8Make rolls or loaves and let rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Bake at 400° for 25 minutes.

9If in loaves, bake until when patted sounds hollow.
