Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/4 c. confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. finely minced nuts (usually walnuts)
  • 1/2 lb. red candied cherries (1 1/2 c.)
  • confectioners sugar frosting (recipe follows)
  • sliced red candied cherries (optional)

Directions

    In large bowl, cream butter, sugar and vanilla until light. Stir in flour and nuts until well blended.

    Cover and chill 30 minutes or until firm enough to handle.

    On lightly floured surface, shape in 1-inch thick slices.

    Turn cut side up; place cherry in center of each slice.

    With lightly floured hands, shape in balls, covering cherry completely with dough.

    Place 1-inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet; chill 15 minutes.

    Bake in preheated 350° oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to racks to cool.
