Chocolate Date Nut Bars

- 1/2 c. butter or oleo
- 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. dates, chopped
- 1 c. nuts, chopped
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

3In a large saucepan, over low heat, melt butter and chocolate.

4Remove from heat.

5Gradually stir in sugar until well blended.

6Beat in eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.

7Stir in flour, dates, nuts, vanilla and salt until smooth.

8Spread in pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until center is set (do not overbake). Cool in pan on wire rack.

9Cut into bars.

10Makes 32 (2 x 1 1/2-inch) bars.
