Chocolate Nut Brownies

  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. nuts, divided

Directions

    In mixing bowl, beat shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla just until smooth.

    Combine dry ingredients; stir into batter.

    Fold in half the nuts.

    Spread into a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Sprinkle remaining nuts on top.

    Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes, or until brownies pull away from the sides of the pan. Cool on wire rack.
