- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 3 Tbsp. milk
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1 sq. chocolate, melted
Directions

1Cream shortening.

2Add sugar slowly.

3Add egg yolk and vanilla extract.

4Beat well.

5Add milk; add sifted dry ingredients.

6Divide dough in half.

7Add melted chocolate to one half.

8Roll white dough into thin rectangular sheet, then roll chocolate dough into a sheet the same size.

9Place white dough over chocolate and gently press together.

10Roll as for jelly roll into a tight roll.

11Chill for several hours to become very firm. Cut into 1/4-inch slices.

12Put on greased baking sheet.

13Bake in moderate oven at 375° for 10 minutes.

14Makes 4 dozen.
