  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 3 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 c. plain flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • Chocolate Icing

Directions

    In saucepan, melt and heat to boiling the butter, cocoa, shortening and water. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, soda and salt.

    Combine and mix with cocoa mixture.

    In a small bowl, combine the eggs, buttermilk and vanilla.

    Combine and mix well with the other ingredients. Pour into greased 13 x 11-inch baking dish. Bake at 325° for 30 minutes.

    Leave cake in pan. Cover with icing after removing cake from oven.
