  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 whole eggs
  • 1 c. blackberry jam
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 c. glazed cherries
  • 1 c. chopped raisins
  • 1 c. mashed potatoes
  • 1 1/2 c. shredded coconut
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 2 oz. brandy or brandy flavoring
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • a little salt

Directions

    Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, beating well after each addition.

    Add jam, walnuts, cherries, raisins, potatoes, coconut and allspice.

    Stir in buttermilk.

    Add brandy.

    Add sifted flour with soda and salt and fold into the batter until smooth.

    Bake in two or three layers or in a tube pan in a 250° oven (slow) for about 1 1/2 hours or until done.

    Use any preferred icing with nuts.
