  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 1 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 tsp. lemon flavoring
  • 3 eggs, separated
  • 2/3 c. milk

    Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.

    Cream shortening with sugar and flavorings until fluffy.

    Add egg yolks.

    Add sifted dry ingredients alternately in small amounts with milk, beating well after each addition.

    Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry and fold into batter.

    Pour into two greased pans and bake in moderate oven at 375° about 30 minutes.
