  • 1 c. plain flour
  • 2/3 c. cornmeal
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. bacon drippings
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 to 1 1/4 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 lb. franks

    Stir soda into buttermilk. Add

    Heat skillet, containing 2 inches of cooking oil, to medium temperature. Dip each frank piece into bread mixture, then into oil, holding
