- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1 c. cornmeal
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 c. milk
- 2 beaten eggs
- 4 1/2 or 5 c. flour
Directions

1Soften yeast in warm water.

2Combine cornmeal, shortening, salt, sugar and milk.

3Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Cook over boiling water for 10 minutes.

4Cool to lukewarm.

5Add eggs and 1 1/2 cups flour; mix well.

6Add yeast and rest of flour to make soft dough.

7Knead until smooth and elastic (approximately 5 minutes).

8Place in greased bowl.

9Let rise until doubled in size.

10Punch down and let rise 10 minutes.

11Shape into rolls. Brush top lightly with melted butter.

12Let rise until light.

13Bake at 350° for 15 to 20 minutes.
