  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 12 teaspoons baking powder
  • 12 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 14 cup shortening
  • 12 cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup frozen cranberries, chopped into halves
  • 12 cup chopped walnuts

    preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    grease a 9 by 5 loaf pan.

    sift together flour,sugar,baking powder, baking soda & salt.

    using a pastry blender cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form.

    in a seperate bowl,combine orange juice,orange peel & egg.

    make a well in the center of the dry ingrediants.

    add egg mixture all at once,tossing with a fork until just moistened.

    stir in nuts & cranberries.

    spread batter in prepared pan.

    bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean,about 1 hour.

    remove bread from pan;cool completly.
