- 1 c. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, chopped
- 1 c. walnuts, chopped
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/3 c. flour
Directions

1Pour the boiling water over the dates, walnuts and soda. Stir.

2Add the sugar, shortening, salt and vanilla.

3Stir well. Add the flour and mix well.

4Put in greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.

5Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes until tested done.

6When cool, frost with Penuche Frosting.
