Ingredients

  • 2 c. chopped, pitted dates,
  • 2/3 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. honey
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 c. very hot water
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. chopped walnuts

Directions

    In a large bowl, combine dates, sugar, honey and butter.

    Add very hot water; let stand for 15 minutes.

    Preheat oven to 325°. Stir egg and vanilla into date mixture.

    In a separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients.

    Stir the flour mixture into the date mixture.

    Pour batter into a greased loaf pan and bake for 1 hour or until a wooden toothpick inserted comes out clean.

    Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove the bread and place it on a wire rack.
