  • 1/2 lb. chopped dates
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 2 Tbsp. Crisco
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 c. nuts
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Pour boiling water over dates and let cool.

    Cream together shortening, soda, sugar and beaten eggs.

    Add dates and water. Mix as for muffins with flour and salt.

    Add vanilla and nuts. Grease and flour Number 303 cans.

    Fill 2/3 full of mixture and bake at 375° for 60 minutes or until done.
