- 1 1/4 c. cut dates
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 1/4 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. chopped nut meats
Directions

1In medium saucepan, combine dates, water, butter and vanilla. Cook 5 minutes.

2Cool.

3Add egg and sugar.

4Sift flour with remaining ingredients and add to mixture.

5Put in a greased and wax paper lined 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.

6Bake in moderate oven, 350°, for 1 hour or until done.

7Cool.

8Frost and decorate with nuts and candied cherries.

9Keeps well.

10Can be frozen.
