  • 2 c. sifted Softasilk
  • 1 1/3 c. sugar
  • 3 tsp. double-action baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/3 c. high grade shortening
  • 1 c. milk, divided
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon extract
  • 1/3 c. unbeaten egg yolks (4 medium)

Directions

    Sift together into bowl, Softasilk, sugar, baking powder and salt.

    Add shortening, 2/3 cup milk, extract and vanilla.

    Beat vigorously with spoon for 2 minutes by clock (about 150 strokes per minute).

    Or mix with electric mixer on medium speed (middle of dial) for 2 minutes.

    Add the rest of milk and egg yolks.

    Beat 2 more minutes.

    Pour batter into prepared pans.
