- 3 or 4 large firm green tomatoes
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 c. corn meal
- 1/4 c. flour
- shortening
Directions

1Wash and slice tomatoes 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick.

2Beat egg and milk in bowl.

3In another bowl, combine corn meal and flour.

4Dip each slice individually in the milk and egg mixture and then in the flour and corn meal mixture.

5Have shortening about 1/2-inch deep in heavy skillet.

6When shortening is hot, place tomatoes in and fry (not too fast) until brown on both sides.

7Salt to taste.
