- 1 (4 oz.) pkg. German chocolate
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 1 c. butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 1/4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Melt chocolate in boiling water; cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add yolks, one at a time, beating well after each.

2Blend in vanilla and chocolate.

3Mix flour with soda and salt; add alternately with milk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth.

4Fold in whites. Pour into 3 (9-inch) cake pans.

5Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
