  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 unbeaten egg
  • 1/2 c. sorghum molasses
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. shortening

    Cream the shortening and sugar.

    Add egg and molasses and mix well.

    Blend soda with milk.

    Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with milk.

    Bake in a moderate oven (340°) for about 40 minutes.
