  • 3/4 c. molasses
  • 3/4 c. liquid egg substitute
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1/4 c. melted corn-oil margarine
  • 2 3/4 c. unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp. ground ginger
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. ground or freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 c. boiling water
  • powdered sugar or light whipped topping (optional)
