- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- additional sugar
Directions

1In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar.

2Beat in egg and molasses.

3Combine flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and salt.

4Gradually add to creamed mixture.

5Roll teaspoonfuls of dough into balls.

6Dip one side of each ball in sugar.

7Place with sugar side up on greased baking sheet.

8Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.

9Yields 3 to 4 dozen.
