- 1 c. Herman
- 1 pkg. yeast (dry)
- 1 1/2 c. warm water
- 6 c. flour (approximately), divided
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. soda
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water, mix with Herman.

2Add 4 cups flour, salt and sugar to yeast mixture.

3Stir and cover.

4Let rise until double in bulk, about 2 hours.

5Add 1 cup flour and soda to risen mixture.

6Knead in 1 cup more of flour until dough is smooth and not sticky.

7Form dough into 1 large or 2 small loaves.

8Place in greased pans.

9Cover and let rise until double, about 1 1/2 hours.

10Put in a shallow pan of water on bottom rack of oven.

11Bake bread at 400° for 30 to 35 minutes.
