Ingredients
- 2 lb. brisket
- 2 to 3 Tbsp. oil
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 celery stalk, sliced
- 1 to 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 c. red wine
- 1/2 pkg. onion soup mix (about 2 tsp.)
- 1 c. water
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1/2 c. ketchup
Directions

1Brown meat on both sides in 2 tablespoons hot oil in ovenproof pan.

2Remove; sprinkle with salt and pepper and set aside.

3In the same pan, add vegetables and cook until wilted.

4Add garlic and cook a few minutes more.

5Return meat to pan.

6Cover with remaining ingredients.

7Cover and bake at 350° for 2 hours. Remove meat from pan.

8Cool meat and sauce separately overnight. Skim fat from sauce and puree.

9Slice meat and return to pan. Pour sauce over it and cook an additional 1/2 to 1 hour.
