Ingredients

  • 1 qt. boiling water
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 3 pkg. yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • approximately 5 lb. flour

Directions

    Put shortening, salt and sugar in a large bowl.

    Pour in one-quart boiling water, stir until shortening dissolves.

    Let cool to lukewarm and add beaten eggs.

    Dissolve yeast in 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water.

    Add to cooled shortening mix.

    Add 2 cups flour at a time until stiff enough to knead on floured board. Knead 10 minutes.

    Place in greased bowl and let rise until doubles.

    Shape loaves into equal portions.

    Let rise.

    Bake at 325° for 30 or 40 minutes.
