- 4 c. flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 lb. raisins
- 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. baking soda
Directions

1Heat oven to 375°.

2Grease a loaf pan with shortening.

3Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir in butter and raisins.

4Place buttermilk, egg and baking soda in a bowl and beat with a fork.

5Add egg mixture to dry ingredients, stirring until blended. Turn out dough onto a floured board and knead lightly until smooth.

6Place in pan and bake. Check after 35 minutes (may take a bit longer).
