  • 3 3/4 c. plain flour, sifted
  • 2 tsp. each: baking soda, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves
  • 1 tsp. each: vanilla and lemon flavoring
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 1 1/2 c. nuts, chopped
  • 1 1/2 c. raisins
  • 2 c. blackberry jam
  • 1 c. strawberry preserves
  • 1 c. peach preserves or pear preserves (or 1/2 c. each)

    Cream softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

    Add beaten egg yolks.

    Sift flour, soda and spices together.

    Rinse raisins and drain.

    Combine with chopped nuts in a separate bowl.

    Add approximately 1/8 cup of flour and spice mixture to nuts and raisins.
