Ingredients

  • 2 packages (1/4 oz. each) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cut warm water (110~ to 115~)
  • 1/2 c. warm milk (110~ to 115~)
  • 1/3 c. butter, softened
  • 1 1/3 c. sugar, divided
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp. jelly or jam
  • 1 egg white, beaten
  • Oil for deep-fat frying

Directions

    In mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.

    Add milk, butter, 1/3 cup sugar, egg yolks and salt; mix well.

    Stir in enough flour to form a soft dough (do not knead).

    Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease top.

    Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours.
