Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1/2 c. oil
  • 3 c. bread crumbs
  • 2 c. grated Romano cheese
  • 2 large cans tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp. basil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 5 eggs
  • pinch of anise seed
  • pinch of oregano

Directions

    Saute onions in 1/4 cup oil.

    Add tomato sauce, garlic and basil.

    Simmer 5 minutes before adding meatballs.

    Mix eggs, ground beef, cheese and bread crumbs in large bowl.

    Form into 1-inch meatballs and add to sauce.

    Simmer for 15 minutes without stirring, then simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Serve alone or over pasta.
