- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. butter, margarine or shortening
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
- 1 Tbsp. melted butter
Directions

1Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar in a mixing bowl.

2Cut in butter or shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Add buttermilk.

4Mix to make a soft dough.

5Turn out onto lightly floured surface.

6Knead a few times to make a soft dough.

7Don't overknead or the biscuits will turn hard and dry.

8Roll out to a 6 x 6-inch square.

9Place on ungreased baking sheet.

10With knife cut dough into 12 even portions.

11Do not separate.

12Bake at 400° until golden, about 15 minutes.
