Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 piece cinnamon stick
  • 3 cardamom pods
  • 1 dash turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons ground fenugreek (I didn't use but may try in the future)
  • 1 onion
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 2 cups brown rice
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup split peas

Directions

    Remove cardamom seeds from pods and saute spices in oil in large pot.

    Add chopped onions and bell pepper; saute until onion is soft.

    Add rice and cook for 5 minutes.

    Add water and salt and boil; cook on low for 20 minutes.

    Add split peas and cook for 35 minutes more.
