- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 cloves
- 1 piece cinnamon stick
- 3 cardamom pods
- 1 dash turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons ground fenugreek (I didn't use but may try in the future)
- 1 onion
- 1 bell pepper
- 2 cups brown rice
- 6 cups water
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 cup split peas
Directions

1Remove cardamom seeds from pods and saute spices in oil in large pot.

2Add chopped onions and bell pepper; saute until onion is soft.

3Add rice and cook for 5 minutes.

4Add water and salt and boil; cook on low for 20 minutes.

5Add split peas and cook for 35 minutes more.
