Ingredients
- small to medium cucumbers (enough to fill gal. jar)
- 2 Tbsp. salt
- 1 1/2 c. whole pickling spice
- 4 c. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. alum
- 4 c. white vinegar
Directions

1Pack cucumbers in glass or plastic gallon jar.

2Pack tightly and add salt, alum, pickling spice and vinegar.

3Fill jar rest of way with water.

4Put lid on tightly and let stand 1 month. Remove from jar and wash off pickles.

5Cut into slices 1/4-inch thick.

6Put back in jar and sprinkle with sugar alternating layers, first pickles, then sugar, then pickles, etc.

7Put lid on and shake well until sugar is turned into liquid.

8Put in refrigerator and keep there.
