- 1/2 lb. butter
- 2 1/2 c. oats (not quick cooking)
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 2 1/4 c. light brown sugar (1 lb.)
- 1/2 c. ground blanched almonds
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/8 tsp. salt
Directions

1Cream shortening with sugar.

2Add beaten egg, oatmeal, brown sugar, vanilla, salt and almonds.

3Drop by one-half teaspoonful on greased cookie sheet with plenty of room because they spread.

4Bake about 6 minutes at 375°.

5Let cool about 1 minute on sheet.

6Then remove quickly and roll in powdered sugar.

7Very fragile and best to bake only one sheet at a time.

8Dough can be refrigerated or frozen and used in parts.

9Makes about 11 dozen.
