  • 1 head lettuce
  • 1/2 c. celery, chopped
  • 1/2 c. bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 small purple onion, sliced
  • 1/2 can water chestnuts, sliced
  • 1 3/4 c. Hellmann's mayonnaise plus 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • mild Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 10 to 12 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

Directions

    Break lettuce in small pieces in bottom of a 9 x 12-inch Pyrex pan.

    Put celery, pepper and water chestnuts on lettuce.

    Cover this with onion slices.

    Spread mayonnaise and then put the bacon on this.

    Cover with the cheese.

    Can be made a day ahead.
