- 3/4 c. butter, softened
- 1 1/4 c. sugar
- 8 egg yolks
- 2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. milk
- 1/2 tsp. lemon extract
- Lord Baltimore Filling
Directions

1Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy.

2Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored.

3Add to creamed mixture and beat until very smooth, almost waxy in appearance. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.

4Stir in lemon extract.

5Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.

6Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

7Cool in pans 10 minutes; remove from pans and cool completely.

8Spread Lord Baltimore Filling between layers and on top of cake.
