Old-Fashioned Egg Cornbread

- 2 c. self-rising corn meal
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. Crisco oil
Directions

1Put oil into a 10-inch well-seasoned skillet and preheat at 400° until very hot.

2Mix all other ingredients together and when oil is hot, pour about half into mixture and stir.

3Then pour batter into the pan with the hot oil; do not stir now.

4This will make a nice crust and should keep bread from sticking.

5Bake 35 minutes at 400° or until top is brown.

6Take from oven and turn onto a plate immediately.

7Serve while hot.

8Recipe can be cut in half except for oil and using same 10-inch skillet.

9Will make a nice, thin, crusty bread.
