Old Fashioned Walnut Bread

- 3 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1/4 c. shortening, melted
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Directions

1Re-sift flour with sugar, baking powder and salt.

2Add egg, shortening, milk and vanilla to dry mixture.

3Stir just until all of the flour is moistened.

4Stir in walnuts.

5Turn into greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan or divide batter between two greased No. 2 1/2 cans.

6Bake at 350° for about 1 hour and 20 minutes for rectangular loaf or for 1 hour and 10 minutes for round loaf.
