  • 1 c. butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 1/2 c. plain flour
  • 2 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 lb. orange slice candy, finely cut
  • 1 can coconut
  • 1 box chopped dates
  • 1 c. orange juice
  • 2 c. powdered sugar

    Dissolve soda in buttermilk.

    Cream butter and sugar.

    Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

    Add half of the flour with milk to batter.

    Roll nuts, candy and dates in remaining flour; add to batter with coconut.

    Bake in tube pan 2 1/2 hours at 250°.
