Ingredients
- 1 bag dried split peas
- 1 lb. carrots
- 4 medium potatoes
- 3 stalks celery
- 2 lb. ham (end)
- 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
- 1/8 tsp. chili pepper
- 1 medium onion
Directions

1Soak beans 4 hours or overnight.

2Discard water.

3Dice potatoes (skin on), celery, carrots and onion.

4Add ham.

5Put in 6-quart pot.

6Cover ingredients with water.

7Simmer 4 hour.

8Remove ham. Remove fat and bone.

9Cut ham into bite-size pieces.

10Return to soup.

11To thin, cook longer.

12To thicken, add water.

13Serve with toasted bagels.
