  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. hot mashed potatoes
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. scalded milk
  • 1 egg
  • 4 to 4 1/2 c. sifted plain flour

Directions

    Mix yeast and warm water.

    Combine potatoes, shortening, sugar, salt and milk until lukewarm and add to yeast mixture.

    Add egg to mixture and stir in flour.

    Knead lightly on lightly floured board. Let rise about 1 hour and punch down and let rise about 10 minutes. Shape into rolls and let rise 1 hour and bake 10 to 12 minutes until brown at 400°.
