  • 1 c. butter, softened
  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. buttermilk or orange juice
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions

    Cream butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine dry ingredients.

    Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, beating after each addition.

    Add flavoring.

    Spoon batter into a greased and floured tube pan.

    Bake at 350° for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 325° and bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
