- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1 1/2 c. lukewarm milk (scalded, then cooled)
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water in large mixer bowl.

2Add milk, 1/2 cup sugar, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, eggs, shortening and 2 cups of flour.

3Beat on low speed 30 seconds.

4Beat on medium speed 2 minutes.

5Stir in remaining flour; continue stirring until smooth. Cover; let rise in warm place until double, 50 to 60 minutes. Turn dough onto well-floured board.

6Roll to 1/2-inch thick.

7Cut into 2 1/2-inch doughnuts.

8Cover; let rise until double, about 20 minutes.

9Heat oil and deep fry until golden brown.

10Drain; while warm roll doughnuts in sugar or spread with glaze.
